Link Directory (LD) [Deleted]

I think it should just work as it works for XF Resource Manager and XF Media Gallery. And you can select PER CATEGORY if items can be uploaded or not (parent as well as childs). You see all links of a category in the parent, then you can narrow your search down as you click the sub categories. The filters should work in the parent as well as in the sub categories.

There is only a practical reason for this: To not let the user be confused if he clicks a parent category and then it displays: "There (are) currently no links". If you can not post a link in a parent at all, it would be even more confusing to read that phrase.

What works for XFRM and XFMG will work for LD as well, I am pretty sure... (y)

In XFRM you are not able to post a Resource into the "Parent Category".
For example, it is not possible to add a Resource into the Category named "Add-ons".

In the LD-Addon, you can post a Link-Entry into the "Parent-Category" already.
If you do so, the message "There are currently no links to display" disappears.

So the LD-Addon is already more flexible than the XF Resource Manager.

Not correct. In XFRM you can select if or not for any category. I deselect everything for parent categories, so that users do NOT upload anything there. Despite that, the parent still shows the child items.

@au last can you allow option to move sidebar and category list to move to right hand side to match forum

I had this suggestion a long time ago to be implemented for the "XF Resource Manager" and it was rejected by Mike, because it will cause issues with XenForo.

Considering both the Forum and Members have right-hand sidebars, I've never understood why and the inconsistency it brings with Resource Manager.

I think from an User Interface Designer point of view that everything that has to do with "hierarchies" and structures is better digested by having it from left top to bottom right. If you look at desktop computer operating systems it is always like that. And I bet they wanted to mimic it for XFRM and XFMG.

Agreed. I just hope 2.0 has a consistent approach with sidebar positioning, so that add-ons can follow that too. IMHO, all sidebars on the left.

it was quite a huge discussion about "sidebar at the left vs. sidebar at the right" back then (about 4 years ago) and spanned across many many pages.

Have fun if you want to read it again ;)

... Anyway, today I think that the Category-List at the left Sidebar is fine and in line with widely used standards and websites.
But this is a topic which better should be discussed in another thread. Not to hijack this LD-thread.

Is there anyway to have the same sized listing in Grid view. Us OCD people can't handle all the boxes being different sizes. :)

Yep, +1 (y)
I am not OCD but it not looking nice when boxes are different sizes

it will also not look "nice" when the images will have the same size (width, height).
Why? Because the images which are manually uploaded will all be blurred. You can already see this effect in "List View" when you unselect the option "Full image".

You also need to consider that you are having different amount of text in each box, which will make it hard for each box to have the same height.

What you guys are asking for is certainly possible (different layout-structure, putting text atop the image, etc.), but it will have other negative effects...
