I noticed that the addons for XenForo such as Enhanced Search and Resource Manager must be renewed every year. (Negative points)

Is the license for the XenForo itself something that has to be renewed every year. (Additional negative points) If so, how much is the renewal?

The initial license purchase is a one off payment, which includes 12 months of support and updates.

After 12 months, the license is still valid and you can continue to use the software with no additional charges, but should you wish to download new releases or access ticket support, you would need to purchase a 1 year extension.

Otherwise you can choose not to renew support and remain on the same version.

Is the extension rate valid if there's a gap in renewal? If after the first 12 months I elect not to extend but in 24 months down the road I need to update do I still pay the extension price or does it revert to a full price license fee due to the years I didn't need/pay for a license?

It will always be just the extension price and it will always give you a full 12 months from the date of purchase if the license is already expired.
