Level Systems in XenForo

It's time for XenForo to have this feature at its core, it's mature enough.

What does it consist of?

The system of levels is an individual value of each user of the community (created in XenForo) that is calculated thanks to the action of the rest of users. This serves to encourage users to interact more in the community.

How is it calculated?

Based on the votes received from other users in your messages, comments and contributions to the community. I find it interesting, that you can add the option "Reactions" version XenForo. Each owner of their community can shape the value of each reaction, making a particular reaction have more value than another.

How can I increase my level?

Each new user starts being level 1. To level up only it is necessary to participate in the community with normality and with comments and contributions that other users consider interesting and of quality to give you a positive vote. I also believe that XenForo could create ways apart from positive voting, to go up the level. If you are interested I can let you know.

How does it work?

Each vote received brings up your "level bar." Each time this bar is completed your level increases by one point (and each new level requires more votes than the previous one.) For example:

Level 1 - New User
Level 2 - Requires a positive vote
Level 3 - Requires 5 positive votes
Level 4 - Requires 10 positive votes
Level 5 - Requires 15 positive votes
... so on, successively ...

Much can be done with this level system in a community, such as unlocking unique benefits in your community and awarding rewards for reaching an "x" level. For example:

When you reach level 100 you get:
• Premium Membership for one year (free)
• Access to exclusive areas of the community
• Special powers in the community
• etc etc.

This will promote too much activity in forums. As there will be levels to reach, benefits and rewards to win. This coupled with a system of virtual scores of XenForo, will be able to ascend to any community. And promote the activity like never before. It is also necessary that the level of the user is visible in a natural way in his messages in the forums and in his profile. In addition, the origin of their votes, such as the number of votes received, the date of the votes, etc., is of public knowledge.

What do you think?... It can serve as a substitute for the obsolete "title" system.

I'm sorry for my english, i use a translate.

Greetings!,
Reinhard

No, it is not.

What you present is a scoring system, and I present a system of levels. Imagine a game, which has an experience bar that as you do activities you go up the bar and fill it, you level up. In the course of your activities in the game you gain experience to level up that unlocks new weapons, challenges, clothing, among others, but also you earn virtual money to buy those unlockables by level, weapons, expansions, improvements in your characters and his skills. Do you understand the example? Is my analogy understood? Therefore, it is not the same.

My level system is a way to promote users to participate in the community, scoring system is another way to promote users to participate. But they are different, but united they are POWERFUL !.

Imagine yourself in a community of forums, which when registering is level 1 and earns 100 points for your registration. It is good incentive. Clearly you must create virtual and / or physical objects that can be exchanged for those points obtained. For example, you can award 100 points each time you level up (it can be configured in the admin panel by the owner of the community). And in the community to which it belongs there are users of level 60, level 120, level 27, in short, higher level than you. You will notice that they are recognized each by their level, enjoy benefits unlocked by reaching a certain level, have earned enough points to redeem them for virtual or physical objects, premium membership in the community, etc.

What I come to is that the level system is your indicator of experience and hierarchy in the community, and the scoring system you mention is your money in that same community.

Returning to the previous example, you are a new user in a forum community. You perform on your first day 7 messages in topics that you like, one of your messages receiving 15 positive votes. Therefore, level 1 rises to level 3 (to a positive vote away to be level 4). For each positive vote, you receive 25 points (can be changeable). For each message created you receive 3 points, as you created 7 messages you got a total of 35 points. Adding the points received by the votes received is -> 35 points + 375 points = 410 points obtained. Adding the 100 points for the registration to the forum, this rises to 510 points in total.

Let's say the community sells the premium membership at $ 30 USD. But you can also redeem yourself for 100,000 points. Clearly this will depend on each community content that has its "virtual store", services or products offered by the exchange of their points. While more valuable levels and points in the community, the better for it. If you add variety to your operation, you will gain a strong community.

In the level system you can create exclusivity, such as having an exclusive zone in the forums for users level 100 or more. You can give benefits like 5% discounts on everything you buy on the website to users level 50 or higher, you can increase this discount to 10% on everything you buy on the website to level 100 users + Access to the exclusive forum area, and so on.

Flexibility must be important in a community, both systems are of paramount importance in any community. And if this is added to the core of XenForo, it definitely takes over the market. Many communities by their theme depend on the "levels" and "points". Other communities its theme only takes into account the level as an indicator of experience and recognition in the community, and one to another benefit to level up.

Can you understand my suggestion now?

this is a great post, it would be nice if it could be added. This definitely would motivate people to post and grow the community.

I didn't completely read the other thread but essentially if such a system was in place a "vote" which virtually would be a reputation point which then can be tracked and a user promoted under that criteria. Either way I was only trying to help and see no reason for your bold statements towards me.

Do not misunderstand. The bold were to highlight the importance, nothing more. I apologize if I have offended you in any way, I reiterated that it was not my intention. The bold ones use them, in that sense, to emphasize the important thing.

My explanation was to differentiate my proposal to which you have mentioned (with good intention, and as a feedback). Because they are not really the same, I wanted to clarify that the doubt was. Thanks for comment, if you have any ideas to improve the welcome proposal !.

And remember that I use a translator, therefore, the translator can not adequately express what I am trying to say or the (positive) intention of my writings.

I see no valid reason a credit and shop system needs to be in core. It should remain 3rd party only.

-1 from me

It would be interesting to know the reasons why this is not valid. Although I want to emphasize that my suggestion is just the level system, the store was just an idea that I had to use the logic and scoring system that Steve F mentioned. But all by way of explanation, of the differences of both.

I want to make you understand that my suggestion is a system of levels. Not the one of a system of credits or store in the core.

Now what do you think?

Levels, credits.. Still doesn't change my mind. Out of the several xF licences I have, only one uses a credit system and that same site uses a level system as it's sports related, so leveling for funny rank names and trophy rewards and credits for betting in Sportsbooker. Sorry, but adding this to core is just bloat. Still a -1 from me.

No problem, if that is what you consider to be much respected, I would like to know your website. In my opinion the system of levels is what is necessary for any community, but, well you prefer to have it as a third party feature. In my case, I prefer it in the nucleus.

Thanks for commenting then, do not forget to introduce me your website.
