Let’s see some XenForo forums that have a built in homepage with content

One of my long-term goals for my forum is to add a homepage with content. Kind of like a blog, but also with informative pages and tutorials that have direct links on the homepage, like a normal website.

I know what the add-on options are to achieve this, but I’d like to see some examples in action. Doesn’t matter what your method is - I’m just curious and looking for different ideas.

Thanks!

Context is key. When the OP says "method" he is talking about what program or coding used to construct the content page. Your splash page has ZERO content. It has links to find content.

Here is an advanced use of snippets - but they're organic, not RSS feeds and they take the reader to the thread if he/she decides to keep on reading.

NO webpage is going to have entire articles on them, that are overly long. Short ones, sure. Snippets to others? Of course. You want people to read your thread content.

My work-in-progress...

I started out with the XF dev sample app and that kind of morphed into using it for featured images instead of threads (it is a photography forum after all). That was a good XF2 code learning experience since I had to play around with attachments and making new preview images just for the front page along with permissions and various sundries. I ended up going a bit overboard in that I have it done so that any of the moderators can 'feature' any image attachment from any post within a thread (or even select multiple from the same post) really easy, like a couple of mouse-clicks easy, as opposed to most of the 'featured threads' type add-ons that either grab the first image from the thread or require/allow a single image to be uploaded for the preview.

Behind the scenes I've still got a bunch of stuff to be tweaked yet as I do want to have some more traditional 'featured threads' snippets shown as well along with some other items. For now though it's a good starting point and places emphasis on the photos that members post.

The one major thing it did teach me though is that Apple Safari is the modern day IE6. :cautious:

I just don't get this comment "Which is basically snippets of articles, with links to where the content is actually located. " when every example you've used is the same lol.
I can tell you don't get it. Snippets are still content, nobody said it wasn't. I'm assuming the OP doesn't want the forum index page as his site home page. Because it's not content-rich, it's just titles of categories and threads and maybe a site description worked in there somewhere.

People have done what he asks about, for years using stuff like wordpress or joomla. There's at least a couple of good xf addons for it too.

Nobody wants long articles on their homepage, not even newspapers.
