I think I have gotten in over my head on this.
Our site has numerous links to other threads and posts on the site that use the showthread.php such as https://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?84698-Joseph-Johnson-Liverpool-Pocket-watch-Need-Help!/page2. When that link is clicked the user is taken to forum home rather than the thread. The page2 cannot work on our site because users can choose their own page lengths but I would like it to at least navigate to the correct thread.
We also have similar links that reference a particular post in a thread like https://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?130078-Massey-V-by-John-Duncan-of-Liverpool&p=1003545&viewfull=1#post1003539
What I would like to see is a way to translate any such link that contains a post reference to https://mb.nawcc.org/posts/1003545 for the link above and https://mb.nawcc.org/threads/130078 for the first one. We have tried doing this with htaccess, but something is capturing these requests and the rewrites do not seem to be occurring as evidenced by the links going to forum home instead of the target.
I just now tried installing vB4Redir and it does not seem to have any effect.
Many of our users have piles of links stored as favorites to particular threads on our site which has been active for 15 years now. They are really upset that this does not work. All of our post and thread indices on the XenForo site are the same as they were on the vBulletin site that generated the references shown.
