XF 2.1 Latest Activity and News Feed empty

Yesterday we installed and configured XenForo Enhanced Search, after which our Latest Activity and News Feed stopped working. The Latest Activity page says "The news feed is currently empty." and the New Feed page says "Your news feed is currently empty. Follow people to fill it.". This is happening with all users. We've rebuilt the search index, I'm unsure about the caches (or whether they have anything to do with it).

What else might cause this?

Version info, if it helps: XF 2.1.2, XF ES 2.1.1, ElasticSearch 6.8.1
