Just wanted to thank the Xenforo Staff/Developers

I’m very excited to see what the future brings XF and I too want to show my gratitude to the XF team and 3rd party devs for providing an excellent software where my community can count on. I’m glad an official statement was made, it has shown me to keep the trust in XF. :)

Thank you XF & 3rd party devs.

what I hate is how you have treated your license holders like mushrooms for going on 3 years
But they didn't. We've have had 14 updates to 2.2 over those past 3 years. That's roughly 5 per year, or an update every 2 months. That doesn't include XF cloud which was surely big for them. We weren't left high and dry, we have had regular patches and bug fixes to the existing stable software.

We purchase the software in the state it is now. No where does it say we're purchasing a future version of the software that doesn't yet exist. No, we are purchasing a license for the existing released version. And 12 months of any released updates.

We get what we pay for which is a license to use the existing software, and we have additionally received regular updates within our 12 months of access to updates. All parts of what we paid for has been delivered.

The XF 2.3 threads can really take a toll on us because they fixate on the next major version, but the license we pay for is for the current version and updates to it which are not necessarily a new major version and thus have been fully fulfilled.

And to have bugs fixed in a timely manner.
But we ALL know that a script can't stay static, especially in the fora world today. Competitors are offering more and more... and not everyone is loyal to a script. And honestly, there have been no "major" features released as for as end user (you know, those members you need) benefit in a noticeable amount of time.

I’m a software developer and I don’t think you realise how difficult it is to balance quality with quantity.
I've dealt with software developers for over 30 years. So I'm pretty sure I'm familiar with the issue.
The simple fact is... you don't keep your customers satisfied... they WILL go elsewhere. And I've dealt with WAY to many developers that were more worried about the "neat ****" that they could do instead of worrying about how to make it easier on the every day users. I saw several instances of where we kicked a vendor to the curb because they could not ultimately offer what our users needed as they were more interested in "tweaking the core" for their benefit.

I want to complain about public services all the time and how the government aren’t doing enough to solve all these various issues, but I hold off on blaming them - why? Because I don’t understand what it’s like to have to consider so many factors.
Guess what... I WAS in Government (public services), in both a capacity of enforcing the laws passed by such (no matter how stupid they were in my opinion), and in an administrative capacity (specifically in the IT portion) for most of my life.... so even in that archaic, convoluted environment I know how reality works. You don't give your customers what they need... you get left by the wayside.

Congratulations on making such a wise decision! I have taken a look at it, and I must say, it's truly awesome.

You can find more information about it at https://invisioncommunity.com/.
I've used it.. and honestly.. after the eventual decision of the XF staff to actually interact with their license holders (after much poop being thrown).. I renewed my XF expired license. That site is a "play" site for me currently as the current style is the default that I'm having fun tweaking.

I may renew my IPS license to play with it on another domain (I like to be able to keep somewhat up to date)... but what keeps me currently on XF is not their base script... it's the 3rd party developers that they are so dependent upon. The dependence on 3rd party developers in many aspects does not give the "price point benefit" to XenForo...But it is what I am comfortable with, and have used on a site since 2012. But many of those 3rd party developers offer products that far exceed what you can get on the other competitive paid scripts.

I agree with your opinion. I'm also stuck here because of the reliance on third-party developers, and I'm just too lazy to go through the process of migrating to a new platform.

For me, a migration is simply more fun... but I've been said to be "into pain". ;)
I can somewhat recreate what I desire with IPS Pages.. but why reinvent the wheel... the major (for user interface) 3rd party XF add-ons that I use FAR exceed what I can do on IPS personally (and exceeds anything XF has probably dreamed of offering as 1st party) - simple example is in my sig for my astro site ... and the lacking base script offering is offset by those 3rd party add-ons that XF is so dependent upon to continue to have any relevance in the current fora field.

This is what’s to come with ChatGPT and forums.
It really depends how proactive developers are. Social media in general won't survive for much longer unless their respective community members can be properly verified as human which will require a lot more than just a CAPTCHA.

Be prepared to submit your biometric data in future before you can let rip on the Internet. On the positive side it might lead to more accountability.

I can assure you that I am not a robot.
That's what a robot would say!

to helping me decide that in actuality, going to another script provider would probably be better.
Had an XF/XFES/XFRM in my basket here.. but due to recent actions.. have decided that site may be better fit on IPS.

Have you explored Discourse yet? I just tried installing it, and it has many great features. I especially love their Discourse chat function.
