Is Xen 2.0 really that bad right now?

Is xen 2.0 really that bad that you can run on production already? I am starting a new forum and would like to start with 2.0 if possible so that I dont have unwated files from 1.5 later on when I upgrade. What do you guys think?

XF 2.0 has been run on a production site for nearly a year, if you count the Demo site.

Is it bad? No, there's definitely no major showstoppers as far as we know. Is it stable? Also no:
https://xenforo.com/community/forums/bug-reports-2-x.91/

Plus there's still a bunch of outstanding reports from the demo.

That said, I'd be more comfortable with someone starting a new forum, at this point, than I would upgrading an existing one. You have no issues with add-ons not being updated, no potential issues with upgrades etc. And, also, the more people that test the software the better and potentially quicker we can be confident that it is stable and we can release the stable version.

Just curious. Does the beta have an import option?

If I were starting a few forum today, it would be on 2.0. Little point in installing and tweaking 1.5 only to upgrade soon anyways.

No it doesn't. That will come later.

Will the import feature be available before the final release? We have a couple add-ons waiting on this to support importing from the XF1 version of add-ons without having to build our own stepped import framework

Really just depends on what add-ons you require if any to go XF2 now or wait. I'm getting ready to start a new project but it will be XF1.5 for now as it required Bob's Sportsbook addon and a Credits add-on, most likely I'll go BD Bank.

xF2 is better option if you are kicking of your jet, it will be like a super duper propulsion liquid which will take you to light speed.

I am using it on live site and so far happy. Today might be beta4 will get release.

xF community also have the current xF2 version running.

You can see my site https://civil4m.com

I would be more than happy to suggest you

Use xF2 its a best.
xF1.x i dont like that interms of mobile friendlyness

That's a target, but clearly getting XF 2.0 to a stable state is a much higher priority than anything else.

Obviously in terms of importing from another forum software, we would just recommend doing the import into 1.5 and then upgrade to 2.0.

However, I appreciate that isn't an avenue which is possible for some import scenarios, such as XF 1.x add-on to a different XF 2.0 add-on.

Leave it with us, it will be done as soon as is humanly possible.

maybe someone will disagree, but if you start off with XF2 then what? I see very
few templates for XF2, and none in the XF2 template section...

The majority of plugins have not converted to xF2
every where I go, I keep seeing XF 1.5, and most of them
do not even say if they support xF2, and if they did, then
I suspect they would have listed that in the description...

If you are not concerned about plugins/templates, then I do
not see any reason why you can not start off with XF2...

personally, I would rather start off with what is already out and
stable, then upgrade to xf2 once 1-3 stable versions have been released.....

If its a new start, why not xF2

Buying a plugin when forum is made from scratch not look a good idea.

Basic functionality and what max people look for is mobile responsive - its advantage in xF2

There are almost 96 plugins available.

If anyone want a plugin or extra feature he can get custom development made from coder.

I am not a coder so do not understand complications, a coder may face to develop a new plugin.

I dont think person will concentrate first on adding features, when its new max will concentrate on creating attractive containt instead of making look more attractive.

If you want to see, the go back in time with time machine and see how the fb or goigle or anything look like and what features they had.

I am not critising you but trying to post what i feel from my heart.

If max will go on xF2, sooner the addons will be made available by developers

there maybe 96 plugins for XF2, however, is what you are looking for one of those plugins?
compared to 4k plugins for XF1, then no comparison, some plugins may not even be updated
if those coders have moved on in the next step of their life....

I wonder why there are so few XF2 plugins; Do coders have to completely scrap
and restart over for XF2? If so, I guess it would make sense for stable XF2 to come
out before investing so much of their time having to release, then update again
because something in XF2 did not give with the plugins; I certainly would like to
see more xf2 plugins out, however, seems like it would take awhile to catch up.....

Yes, nothing from XF1.x will work with XF2. All add-ons and styles require 100% rewrite. It's a completely updated framework. Many developers will wait to at least Release Candadent as during beta, the code can still change a lot.

Also, remember 96 vs 4k. XF2 beta is a month old, it isn't even RC yet let alone gold. You are comparing a month old beta availability to an almost 7-year-old stable version of the software.

sure, I understand, there are things I need now so therefore I have to use v1.5+
(or I can go xf2 if I want to go without much of anything for several months....)

not sure why the choice is that hard.
:)

I so get it, that is why it is not a hard decision, why would I go with software
barely out of the factory with almost no plugins, and templates? and I do
understand that it took years to get that many plugins, but the point is that
there is not alot yet there yet, and I completely understand why....

For me xF2 is best and that is the reason why i purchase xF.

For me customization is second priority and i know what first i should do.

I accept the facts shown above but still i love xF2 and i am happy with it.

New forum = XF 2 - Why bother with 1.5 and installing addons that might not even make it to 2 at all. You're better off going clean and wait for addons that actually make it.

My question though is if XF 2 is going to support upgrades from within the admin sections or is it still going to be manual installs?

Because 1.x Will still be usable and people will be developing for it for several years. It already has a massive collection of addons and styles ready to go and hopping into it is easy :)

Going into 2 will likewise be possible, and plenty of addon authors and stylists are hard at work to those addons wont be too far off either!
