Namely what I want to do is replace moderators with community monitoring. I want to let the members upvote and downvote content, and if the upvote to downvote ratio gets in the red then they will receive a timeout. It would also be nice to have posts autodelete if a certain number people flag them as spam, and also permanently ban the user at the same time.
If all of this isn't possible, then I would be happy enough if I could just get it to ban anyone who has been flagged a certain number of times in a certain period.
I assure everyone I'm not wanting to do this out of laziness. I simply see moderators as a bigger problem than the things they're supposed to solve. Invariably they use their mod powers not to enforce rules but to ensure that they win arguments, and it drives people away. I would much rather that my community police itself.
