Is there an add-on for front-page news?

Is there an add-on to create front page news, similar to on http://www.macrumors.com ? On MacRumors, posts in a certain forum are presented on a dedicated front page that is separate from the forum.

There are several. CTA Featured Threads and Portal. Simple Portal. XenPorta. You can find them all in the Resources section. Check them out. Read the descriptions. Read the discussion threads to see which one you prefer.

In case you're interested, my personal preference (and I've tried them all) is CTA Featured Threads and Portal.
