Is PHPStorm and MAMP Pro the best development environment on the Mac?

I'm looking to get into Xenforo and WordPress development. Everything I have read says that PHPStorm and MAMP Pro tools are the best. Can someone either confirm or deny, please? If it is not the best environment, what should I use instead?

We do use PhpStorm and it is great but it is expensive, especially if you’re just starting out. Visual Studio Code is a very viable (and free) option.

I personally use Laravel Valet for WordPress sites, I find it less awkward to use than MAMP Pro.
