If XenForo's finished, what's next?

With the lack of new version release, lack of information on development progress, purposeful intent to ignore concerns and communicate ... all while months and years ago saying XenForo would do better at just these things, it's logical to give thought to and consider what's the next step for your site and community if XenForo is finished.

What would be your next step in this scenario?
I'd be willing to patch security and add feature stuff without moving to another software, XenForo is the best to use and easy to develop the addon.

If someone is willing to make XenForo look like a board and I would migrate it.

Unless XenForo staff decides to stop supporting future, as software and open source would be a good move or a buyout to another good public or private company is the chosen option

Cool !
I mean Kool !

I was wondering what Fora thinks of the latest silent disruption in Xenforo Inc. And I was wondering what happens to Fora if the title of this thread comes true. And what Fora's ACTUAL agreement with Xenforo Inc. is.

I would probably not answer that !

I’m not sure what silent disruption means, but whatever I don’t think it would affect fora so I doubt they are thinking about it at all.
And I was wondering what happens to Fora if the title of this thread comes true.
Well the title is present tense, not future, so no need for speculation. And if it was future it would be irrelevant as Fora doesn’t rely on xenForo to continue because Fora doesn’t rely on updates to xenForo (or does it?) and I’m sure they have enough knowledge to not need support tickets.
And what Fora's ACTUAL agreement with Xenforo Inc. is.
NDA I imagine

You have really not learned anything - already again on the hunt to spread new FUD and new rumors. I did not expect that my answer to Chris' would become true so fast:

Your post should leave a couple of people very red faced, ashamed and embarrassed. I would love to say "I guess they've learned their lesson" but unfortunately I am pretty sure they did not - which is clearly not your fault.

This isn't my thread.
I was asking a question about what might happen to Fora (a Xenforo based platform), if the title came true.
what new FUD / rumors was I spreading exactly ?

I've said repeatedly I am:

/not worried.

Is that FUD too ?

I hope my position about Xenforo Inc. is clear.

EDIT: I've also said many times some of Fora's Xenforo modifications are major upgrades to stock Xenforo.

Regardless of whether XenForo will continue its development or not, the memories of a perfect forum system will remain. Thousands or maybe billions of new friendships, hundreds of cases of mutual assistance, and last but not least, the perfect resource manager. I am grateful to the XenForo team, for their work and dedication, as well as to the add-on developers. I also thank the haters here, as well as the people with whom we exchanged a few kind words. I wish all of you and your families to be alive and healthy, the rest is easy to achieve.

🥳Happy holidays.🥳

I've been playing with vBulletin 6. It's not quite as good as XenForo yet, but it could be if they keep going.

Invision is pretty nice, too.

But I hope XF will keep releasing new software. They seem to mainly release features that benefit developers... which is good if developers are your target customer base, but not so good if you have a different target customer base. :)

I'll hang out til the end though. :D

Let me address a few concerns floating around.

I apologise for the recent silence. Work on XenForo 2.4 is ongoing. A new HYS is coming soon, and we are targeting a release for some point in 2026. As for 2.3.8, we’re aiming to release that before Christmas, or shortly after the New Year.

To be blunt, this year has been incredibly difficult for the team personally. We've faced a wave of health issues, bereavements, and family emergencies. When a small team gets hit with this much "real life" all at once, productivity takes a hit. It’s noticeable, and we know we didn't get it right this time.

That said, this was a perfect storm of bad luck, and we don't expect these disruptions to continue. Everyone is still fully employed and working on XenForo.

On the financial side, the company is doing fine. Actually, we are in a stronger position than we were previously, largely thanks to the continued growth of Cloud.

I hear your feedback on communication. It’s difficult to post updates when there is nothing new to say, and I know that what you really want is consistent releases, not just words. But we are human, and life happens.

I also want to ask for some perspective. Reading these threads, it’s easy to think the company is finished. While we value the feedback here, the active participants in this thread represent less than 1% of our customer base. We aren't seeing mass cancellations; people are still buying and renewing.

My point isn't to dismiss your complaints. After all, we have failed to meet expectations, and you are right to call us out on that. I’m just urging you to avoid the sensationalism.

We are still working on 2.4, we have plans for the future, and we aren't going anywhere.

Then you have the other side of the coin.... the heavily modded sites that dread major upgrades. The upgrade to 2.3 took a toll on me with so many addons not compatible even months after 2.3 came out.

I ignored 2.3 until I was forced to upgrade on cloud and I can tell you I much prefer no news and a solid backbone to constant changes. I much prefer to concentrate on my community instead of always worrying about what is changing and what will stop working.

So for me, I like the stability of slower steady changes and I am quite happy with the slower pace.

Self hosting may suit you more, it allows you to control that pace.
