How will 301 redirects be handled?

When we convert our forum to xenForo, I understand that every thread will get a new number. So how will links from the old URL be redirected to the new URL?

For example if a website has a link to my forum like this:

http://www.myforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15723

how will it be redirected to:

http://www.myforum.com/forums/threads/13895/

will this be able to be resolved and will the correct post be shown inline in the thread on my newly converted xenForo forum?

If I understand correctly, one table is used for the lookup. This would include threads, posts, attachments and other items.
