Okay so say i bought a style for 1.2.0 and want to upgrade to 1.2.1, the style developer releases an update, what's the best way to go about updating the style? Is it possible to upgrade the style without losing my customizations or re-installing the style(s) all together?

Create a child style and apply your customisations to the child.
Tracy Perry and Russ like this.

The template merging system should take care of most of your customizations. If there are conflicts, you can review them and decide how to merge each template.

Yes, and when you do it, XenForo will let you know which templates needs to be updated or merged.

PD: Make sure you backup your site or style, in case something goes wrong.
