How to get emails on all signups and new threads?

I was wondering how to get automatic email alerts on all new signups and new threads.

There’s this addon for registrations:

Sends email to staff members when there's a new registration.

For threads I just watch all forums

Related, so I post it here: can an admin receive a notification of newly registered members when logging in? I currently go to /admin.php?users/list and then sort by join date but seeing some kind of notification (not per se in the mail) is what I would expect so I hope there is a better way.
