XF 1.5 How to Discourage users upon Ban instead of Prohibiting Access

Hello,

Instead of prohibiting Banned users from accessing our Forum, we would like to Discourage them so that they can still participate (albeit in a frustrating manner).

How can we do this?

I think if you ban them they are banned.

You can certainly discourage non-banned members by moderating, taking away permissions for Conversations, media etc., downloads. Or use the discouragement feature which will make pages load slowly etc.

So there's no way to use the easy built-in Ban feature to just discourage users? There isn't a "Banned" User Group we can alter as needed? Or any other way to achieve this using the built-in Ban feature?

A ban is a complete ban.

You would need to use user groups and permissions and discouragement to achieve anything else.

Any way to use the automated Warning points system to lead to a Discouragement?

Yes, you can either add to discourage or to a usergroup. (see the warning options under user menu in ACP)

I love the warning system, except this is a bit of a limitation that it's either one or the other - not both.
