XF 2.2 How to disable registration except through create user API?

I can disable account registration entirely but then I can't create them through the XenForo API either.

I removed the template for registration but people and bots can still create accounts by sending requests directly to the registration system.

How can I prevent people from making accounts through XenForo's default registration system but allow account creation using the API?

Okay great thanks. So if the register URL is blocked this way, user account creation is impossible without the API?

It should be as the API doesn't use that route.

@Brogan The only problem with this is that it changes the registration popup form to the forum board.

How do I change the route assigned to the register_form template?
