XF 1.4 How To Block Websites in Spam Management?

So using the Spam Phrases feature in Spam Management is turning out to be a bit confusing, from what I understand * is a wild card but for some reason it is not working on URL's.

Lets say I block:
http://example.com/

But a newly registered spammer who should come under the 'maximum messages to check for spam' category posts:
http://example.com/someextension

The link goes through.

I tried using http://example.com/* but it seems that doesn't block all links. What would be the best way to block a website link completely? Would it be *example.com* ?

Try using regex.

Something like: /example[a-z0-9-]*\.(co|net|org)/i
