Hello everyone, complete newcomer here.

I'm using CentOS 7, and it seems the Axivo repo doesn't seem to work on it for installing Elasticsearch.

Any recommendations moving forward? Should I try the old guide next?

I reccomend approximately 1 GB for the HEAP_SIZE per 1 million posts on your forum.

1 Million Posts: 1024
2 Million Posts: 2048
3 Million Posts: 3072
4 Million Posts: 4096
etc
Is this still accurate with how much less ES2.x uses in resources compared to back when this guide was written?

I forget how much memory one of my big boards uses, but we are at 13 million posts and it's speedy on whatever memory it is using (which isn't more than 3GB). We also use exclusively SSDs, so the whole mess just flies along nicely these days.

I'm a bit vague on everything as I'm configuring one, maybe two new cloud accounts for some other projects, and doing a lot of upgrade and configuration on two other servers at the moment. At my age, good luck trying to remember which project I'm working on at any given moment! :D

I have installed elasticsearch on my server but does not know is this working?

Download and install the public signing key:

PHP:
rpm --import https://packages.elastic.co/GPG-KEY-elasticsearch
Added the following in my /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory in a file with a .repo suffix, for example elasticsearch.repo

PHP:
[elasticsearch-2.x]
name=Elasticsearch repository for 2.x packages
baseurl=https://packages.elastic.co/elasticsearch/2.x/centos
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=https://packages.elastic.co/GPG-KEY-elasticsearch
enabled=1
install:

PHP:
yum install elasticsearch
Configure Elasticsearch to automatically start during bootup.

PHP:
chkconfig --add elasticsearch
How to check is this working?

I think now elasticsearch is working But getting error via index.php?search/search "The search could not be completed. Please try again later."

How to update Java 1.8 ? Also AXIVO repository installed elasticsearch = 1.5.2 but how to update to Elasticsearch 2.3.2?
