How many forums?

The term "forum" can be ambiguous, so 1 license = 1 installation. Within that, you can create many "forums" (as in, things like our announcements forum and the pre-sales forum). If you try out the admin demo, you'll see what I mean in the "forums" section of the control panel. The admin demo shows what you'd get with one license (including the Media Gallery and Resource Manager add-ons).

I'm confused when people mention production and development forums now (maybe that's not the right term, public and private for testing).
If 1 licence = 1 install, do I need another license for testing prior to moving into production or would this be fine under the same domain (dev. subdomain for instance, albeit on another machine or IP)?

The terms of the license permit one production (public/live) and one development (testing) forum on the same license.
With the recent changes, the development forum must be clearly designated as such with the term test, staging, dev, etc. in the URL, preferably on the same domain or sub domain.

License is perpetual but to get upgrades and support, there's an annual fee. Not sure about discounts for volume. You're probably best to just use the contact form for that.
