How in the hell someone can do 23 betas?

Internally at work, we're at beta 126. That said, our spec is constantly changing.

I think you're referring to vBulletin. If you are, well, it's a large piece of software. Lots of things [can go] wrong.
 
We have internal and external beta's. Internal beta is further along than an Alpha but not quite there yet for a public beta. Once released publicly, our Beta's are pretty much final product. They are called Beta's for a reason which is why companies usually don't release Alpha's.

Vbulletin is releasing Alpha versions of their software and calling it Beta. But hey, there aren't really any rules for what constitutes an alpha and beta.
 
Just look at the numbering schemes! Obviously those are setup for hundreds, if not thousands, of versions!
