XF 2.1 How do I remove the flash icon (What's new) beside the search icon?

The flash icon only appear in mobile mode.




How do I get rid of it?

I did a template modification for PAGE_CONTAINER but it didn't work.

Unless you messed up whitespacing, this template modifcation is correct.
Though you might run into issues if other Add-ons are modifying the same area of the template.
If that is the case you might need to change the execution order or modify other template modifications

But why on earth do you want to remove the bolt?
Besides alerts and (maybe conversations) it's the commonly the most important feature used by members.

Thanks. I followed your hint and changed the Execution order to 1 and it works now. Hope I don't break other add-ons by doing so.. There are 18 modifications for PAGE_CONTAINER..
