Ok, I'm in style properties, and I see nothing called image ? Where specifically do I change the image path.

Enter 'path to images' in the ACP search.

You will only need to do this if you are using the default style and directory on the server (upgrading would overwrite the custom images if you don't).

Otherwise you would just upload the new images to whichever style directories you have set up already.

What do I name the custom image for it to replace the default avatar?

I get that, and I uploaded the avatar. But where do I change the path to the new default? I guess I could just rename the file, but there are several default avatars.

Ive done this, brogan. It changes nothing. What is the name of the default image I need to change?

Just create those 3 default avatars with same name like default and same sizes.
You will end with 9 files (png).
Upload them to that default folder (you have to overwrite default ones).
Before every upgrade just delete default avatars in upload folder.

The recommended advice is to change the image path, as I have already explained.

Yep, but that will change global image path, not just for avatar images.

You create a new directory on the server, copy all of the files and folders from the default style to it, then modify individual images to suit.
