How can someone who registered 5 years ago be a New Member?

Since 'New' is a word which means a time relative to now, it's not an appropriate title to use indefinitely. Should new members be automatically promoted to Member after a certain amount of time?
Problem with this is that there is no incentive to participate in the forums to progress from new member to member.
Does anyone have any alternative methods of titling members?

I think they may be a new member due to the amount of trophy points they have.

Yes I know. What I'm stating is that the term 'new member' is not an appropriate title for someone who is not a new member. They registered 5 years ago.

Why not simply do away with the 'New' and make them a Member to start with; having progressive titles based on time / posts thereafter using usergroup promotions.

Or would that conflict with your existing set-up?
