MG 1.1 How can I safely replace video files (mp4) behind-the-scenes?

I need having an option to replace videos with re-transcoded versions (lower bitrates). So, I download the mp4 from the server, make a new one (re-transcoded) and upload/replace the original, of course with same file name. Then, when trying post embeds and from within MG, it works great.

But I must be overlooking things. When clicking the download button in MG I get an error. But downloading by right-clicking on the video works just fine. Anyway, I can ignore the download button "inability" simply by disabling it. I'm more worried that I might screw other things up that will/might cause real problems.

Perhaps you know a safer way to replace them, or should I be ok?

There is no recommended way to replace files.

I recommend deleting the original media and uploading it again.
