Quick newbie question: How do I subscribe to the announcements forum? I'd like to get an email each time a new thread is made in there. Or this handled a different way here?

For the most part, an email gets sent out with any important updates.

Ok, and he/they just emails everyone with a forum account or do I need to opt-in somewhere?

On a side note: the ability to subscribe/follow new threads in a specific forum can be quite handy, certainly for quieter or specialist forums. Any ideas if it's on the suggestion list already?

I also have an addon that forces notifications on a specific forum - good for small board for keeping people connected.

That gets a +1 from me as well, as that was used quite a bit by us when we were on phpBB3.

It has equal but different value I think Seadog. Yes I have a little status as long term active member but yours is a fresh, current view.
There is a thread asking us what we want added to the core XF.
