Harddrive Letter Changing

Hey guys,

When I plug/unplug my harddrive sometimes it changes what letter it's using. Let's say F becomes G. When this happens it breaks my shortcuts. Anything I can do to stop that or change what letter a drive is recognized as?

As above. Remember that you can also mount to a directory instead of a letter (Unix-style), but the libraries feature introduced in Windows 7 has made this a little redundant.

I always name my swappable drives from Z: and down.

The problem is, the hard drive letter is assigned on the drive. So if someone gives me a drive to read, and they marked that drive as Z:, and I already have a drive as Z:... Windows doesn't really know what to do.
