I was able to post some messages on a xenforo-based community where it was allowed for non-registered users to submit their posts. The form didn't ask for an email. Is this by default or the admin disabled it on purpose?

Guest posting, if enabled, does not require an email address to be provided.

There are currently 2 captchas that can be used - re-captcha, and questions & answers - the intent is to have those keep the undesirable content out.

Thanks for your enlightening reply.
It would be nive if the system had a non required e-mail field so if the guest is willing to provide it, a possible gravatar is shown.
Saving guest info in a cookie would also be great!
