Got this database error

An unexpected database error occurred. Please try again later.
I got the above error yesterday on one of my forums, i contacted my hosting company and he came back with this.

For some reason, all the database tables for the forum have been renamed form xf_* to xff_*.
Unfortunately this means I’ve had to restore the account from our backup.

Can anyone tell me why this has happened?

Have you made any changes recently?
Installed any add-ons, added any code?

I suspect this was done at the server level so inspecting the server access logs may help to identify who did it.
Your host should be able to help with that.

AS i siad to my host there has been no add-ons installed for about for weeks and that was an update

In which case then you need to check who had access as it's possible the change was purposely done via e.g. phpMyAdmin.

I am the only one that has access and i don't go near any of that that i don't understand.

My Host has generated new password and only the we know.
