The Supreme Court held that section 4 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 is unconstitutional. Ruling in favor of Shelby County, the court was split 5-4 to opine that Congress must redraw maps for which counties must get federal "pre-clearance" for any changes to their local voting laws.
