XF 2.4 GIF Providers: Implementing KLIPY support

In XenForo 2.4 we are abstracting our existing GIPHY support out into a general GIF providers system and adding support for a new provider, KLIPY.

The new "GIF provider" option replaces the previous "Enable GIPHY support" option which, if already configured in XenForo 2.3, will be migrated to this new option. Setting up a new key in the KLIPY partner dashboard is simple with generous rate limits for testing keys. Applying for a production key is simple too with just a little bit of basic info and a short video demonstrating the functionality for the approval process (we will provide a video to use in the manual like we did for GIPHY support).

With KLIPY, as well as settings for filtering potentially inappropriate content, you can also specify which format the animation uses. You can choose between GIF and WebP with the latter producing smaller file sizes.

Once configured, the experience will be exactly the same as now. Clicking the GIF button in the editor will give you trending GIFs:

Searching works as you would expect:

That's it for today. Enjoy your GIFs!

Man Gives Thumbs Up

This site is still using GIPHY as this site is still running XenForo 2.3. KLIPY support is coming in XenForo 2.4.
That's ok then!
That's why i tested to see if giphy was still there.
My small crew love giphy.
They'll miss it.
I'm going to show them this thread.

Can we enable both? perhaps one provider has a different collection?
It doesn't really make a lot of sense. All that would happen is you'd get duplicate GIFs

It's best to gravitate towards one.

Having users pick wouldn't feel like a great decision either. From their perspective they just want GIFs. Both platforms are very good so for most uses I'm certain either one is fine.

My small crew said this "wtaf is klipy.com?"
When i told them all hell broke loose!
We've all got the giphy app on our phones!

i do wish that the popup was resizable lol. but yeah this is nice. animated webps i imagine would be smaller in size? kind of strange these services do not serve mp4s which are going to be smaller in size than gifs?

Good approach given the uncertainty around Giphy billing (I see no evidence of it when I log into my Giphy account but maybe it's just a matter of time). Anytime you can future proof by making something a framework rather than hard coded to specific process, do it. That's the approach we are taking for a project at work

Post Something GIF

I'm assuming when using klipy, old giphys will still work, which also would mean if you couldn't find the gif you wanted using the klipy button, you could still go to giphy.com and paste the URL and it would embed, correct?

In the past it was bubbled up that Tenor could be another potential option. Are there some benefits of KLIPY over Tenor? Hadn't heard of KLIPY prior to this post.
