Galaxy S III or iPhone 4S

I went with the Galaxy Nexus over the S3... smaller screen and less ram yes... but it also doesn't have the ******** add-ons that most phones have. Not to mention the battery life is a bit longer.

I'm an Android user for a long time, coming from WebOS. Personally, I have a Galaxy S2 now and my next phone will be a Google Nexus. I'm tired of installing custom ROM's and I want a pure Google experience, instead of getting a phone loaded with unneeded software. I also plan to get the Google Nexus 7, I sold my Galaxy Tab 10.1 for the same reason: pure Google experience.

I'm waiting to see if Google plans to release a New Nexus phone soon, or else I will get the current version.

Galaxy SIII
Pro's:
Great phones
Android OS
Map and Navigator have a great street view for turn by turn for free

Con's:
Phone breaks, they want to replace battery and plug
Eats battery life without an app

iPhone 4s (I intend to get one next month)
Pro's:
Small smartphone unlike Galaxy phones
Apple Linux OS
Wifi Sync is much better than Android's

Con's:
Expensive
If phone breaks and have insurance, still have to pay $199 deductible

Overall the choice is based on what you prefer.

The only issues I have with android based phones is they are very seldom uptodate with the latest OS. I personally also wouldn't go for an iphone which is why to this day I don't have own a mobile. If I had to choose though it would be the s3.

I think that's up to the manufacturer as well. Samsungs are bad about that.

It's an adverse effect that happens when you have multiple manufacturers trying to cram all their garbage onto the phone, add in the bloat by service providers and this will be the reason. It's one thing apple in my mind will always have over android.

edit: That my opinion/theory for the reasons that most android phones are never uptodate

I have to ask customers to up date to the latest version of iOS or show them how. I'm starting to notice that when some carriers or even vendors like Wal-Mart activate someone's phone, they don't upgrade like they should. I think that's because they are used to Android phones not 'needing' to be updated, but with Apple it's essential.

I own all 3 of the galaxy series (S+, S2 and S3) and I would recommend each one over the comparable iPhone (3GS, 4, 4S).

Don't really like Apple's way of doing things. They think, they know it all and can dictate how users should be using their devices - but if I purchase a piece of hardware for a couple hundred bucks, *I* want to be the only one who decides how to use it. With Android's large and still fast growing community of open-minded developers, Android fits the needs of advanced users much better than iOS. That's why most IT professionals prefer Android.

Also, Android 4 and the upcoming 4.1 runs circles around any iOS currently available, especially on multicore processors. In fact, I haven't seen a single "lag" on my S3, no matter under what circumstances - it's always super-smooth and extremely responsive.

Not exactly bad, but very conservative. For example, they decided that the Galaxy S (and the more powerful S+ which I own) both don't qualify for the Android 4 update, because there wouldn't be any benefits. Nevertheless, I updated my rooted S+ and had to realize they made the right decision. With only 512 MB RAM and a single core processor (though one of the fastest of its kind), it is a bit limited for ICS, so it's better to stick with 2.3 on that phone.

I don't like the ICS roms they have for my phone, samsung infuse 4g so yeah... I would just have to upgrade if I want a better phone. I'm switching to Apple next though just to see what it's like. iPhone 5 that is. Not bothering with the current phone.

Updating isn't even an option for most of the Android phones. Whatever OS you got with the phone is the one the phone will have til you get a new phone.

The reverse is probably true for most iPhone users, iTunes will up date you automatically 99.9% of the time. Users don't have to do anything. The same is true on updating the apps with reminders every time any app you have installed is updated. For a phone, Apples more controlled and stable environment is better way to go. You get updated OS, updated apps no matter how old the phone.

Man I'll be glad when iOS 6 comes out. Tired of chicks with iPhones complaining that they can't upload pics to the forum.

I've found ICS (DarkyRom 11) to run brilliantly on my original Galaxy S - much smoother than any previous firmware.

Never had an iPhone, probably never will.
Original Droid owner and will probably get a Galaxy next but only if my present phone breaks.
I tend to run phones into the ground. I have no need to replace with the latest and greatest every time a new phone comes out.
I'd probably still be using my Motorola Star-Tac Flip-Phone if a network supported it. :)

Battery life of the s3 is much better.
