Hi,

Is there a full backup addon for XenForo that backs up the database and files of XenForo?

Thanks

That looks good, but not sure if it would work on my host.

Will this work on my host as it says this. Additional requirements - exec, mysqldump, and tar I see exec on my phpinfo but not mysqldump or tar?

I know it's an old post, but as I was looking for a backup solution, I might go for this one too since I don't know any others.

I am sure you resolved your question, but it might help someone else. You can SSH these commands to your VPS to find out if this will work on your VPS.

sh -c 'exec echo "exec is available"'
mysqldump --version
tar --version

You should be aware that it might not work if you are on XF 2.2 with PHP8, depending from the other add-ons that you are using. Have a look at the discussion section of said add-on.

Thanks for the heads up. I am using Xenforo 2.3 and PHP8. Based on the discussion over there, I should be safe, but I can't say for sure before trying it. What kind of problems did you face?

Personally none as I did not buy the plugin yet due to the problems with the combination XF2.2/PHP8 (which is what I am running).

Is there a specific reason you're not planning to upgrade to version 2.3? I'm just beginning my journey with Xenforo. I have a VPS, and my hosting control panel lacks an integrated backup option. I'm seeking a reliable backup solution because I want to create a backup before moving from version 2.3 to 2.3.2. I can't afford to lose my current configuration.

Yes, many add-ons not compatible at this time (even my own site specific ones) Once they all are the upgrade will happen.

That makes sense. I think I will try not to use many add-ons, but I am still exploring. For now, I will start with a backup add-on.

It is not that I am not willing to upgrade, just not yet. A bunch of the plugins I am using do not support 2.3 yet and generally (not specific to XF) I tend to wait with major updates a bit until the dust settles and potential issues have been identified and fixed. 2.3 is such a major update (despite the . version number), however, since a couple of days XF 2.3.2 is available, so the dust is probably starting to clear already. :) However: This update will need sorrowful testing in my environment, so it will cost time (alone checking plugin compatibility is a major task, the more if you have to do it again and again it you do it too early, let alone testing the new version intensively) Probably there will decisions need to be made which plugins to replace or to get rid of to be able to upgrade. So it needs a good timing to find a "perfect" moment where it takes the least effort: Not too early (as it will create unneccessary work), not too late (as you will be too far behind the wave, which will create extra effort as well then). The good thing is that XF 2.2.16P2 is running smoothly, so there's no technical need for hurrying and I can be pretty relaxed.

If I was in your situation I'd start with 2.3.x directly.

Your wait does seem reasonable to wait for the upgrade to the new version. Being a WordPress guy all my life, I never worried much before upgrading. Most of the time, my upgrades were without any problems, but I use a backup plugin which backs up my WordPress site to a remote drive, which gives me peace of mind, and I upgrade my site with my eyes closed. But I can understand Xenforo is different. What I am learning so far is do not rush with upgrades like I used to do with WordPress because of security vulnerabilities. I know when you say testing for a new version is stressful, I can relate to that.

About your advice when you said start with 2.3.2 instead of 2.3, I would like that, but I made the forum structures and posts already. Though I don't have any addons yet, as I don't really have any idea what addons to use, but I am doing research on that. If I want to install the 2.3.2 from fresh, I wish I could just only back up the posts and settings and import them after installing 2.3.2.

Updating from 2.3 to 2.3.3 should not be an isstue at all and even less on a uncustomized install w/o plugins and quite new like youir's. No need to worry.
