How do you change from something like 'www.xenforo.com/community' to 'community.xenforo.com' through DNS?

The main domain must be setup with your registrar (which it already is). The subdomain only needs to be setup on your server. Many hosts give you access to a hosting control panel like CPanel which allows you to setup the subdomain yourself. Otherwise you need to contact your host and ask them to setup the subdomain.
