My forum has suddenly stopped sending any e-mails. It's not my server has my other site sends e-mails perfectly. The only thing I've changed recently is upgrading to 1.4.8! Here is the latest excerpt from my mail log file on my server:

Help please!

There are some examples that failed there, but there are other ones that are successful. This may indicate issues with the target server.

My other site works fine, so I'm pretty sure it's a XF issue. And like I said, it WAS working great up until around the time I upgraded to 1,4.8.

If you are using the default PHP mail function and there are no errors in the ACP, then that means the emails have been handed off to the server.

At that point XenForo is no longer involved.

Like Mike has pointed out, I see some entries in your mail log above that are successful. If that is the latest excerpt then I'd say it's all working ok?

Then please explain why it worked perfectly about a week ago, and my other site also works (and still does), then, suddenly, without me changing anything EXCEPT upgrading to 1.4.8, now it doesn't work?

If your other site is sending email.....

Can you compare the exact email settings between one and the other? Have you ticked the box to use the -f option in email sends? I have to have this enabled on my board or it causes weirdness.

The other site has no e-mail settings, it just automatically uses sendmail...

I tried the -f setting and it still doesn't work. :(

What does the other (non working) site use?

Are there any entries in the ACP error log?
My XF site uses sendmail. I see no ACP error log :( I did however get this in "var/mail/www-data":

Code:
Action: failed
Status: 5.1.3
Diagnostic-Code: SMTP; 553 5.7.1 [BL21] Connections will not be accepted from 192.241.221.166, because the ip is in Spamhaus's list; see http://postmaster.yahoo.com/550-bl23.html
Last-Attempt-Date: Sun, 5 Jul 2015 16:33:25 -0400

And I got this in my server's mail log:

Code:
Jul 5 16:37:38 tsoul sm-mta[10593]: t65KbcmD010591: to=<xxxxx@outlook.com>, delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=120655, relay=mx3.hotmail.com. [65.55.37.120], dsn=5.0.0, stat=Service unavailable

That would seem to be at least part of the problem.

Your server IP address appears to be blacklisted/on spam lists.
There have been many reports recently of email failing to hotmail and outlook addresses due to the server IP address being blacklisted.

You appear to be affected by the same problem.

You will need to go about getting the server IP address removed from the lists.

Here's a related thread: XF 1.4 - Confirmation emails not being received
Okay thanks! I've already requested removal from spamhaus. We'll see what happens....

When you see a DSN: Service Unavailable, there is usually a lengthier response you are getting from their mail server. Frequently it will look something like this
Code:
220 banner-something-something
EHLO mailer.example.com
250-banner response
250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
250-PIPELINING
250-8BITMIME
250-STARTTLS
MAIL FROM: foo@example.com
250 2.1.0 Sender ok
RCPT TO: bar@example.com
250 2.1.5 Recipient ok

and is normally warning you that your attempt to send has resulted in a failure because you are blacklisted somewhere.
Checking your MTA logs normally will give you the entire message (the 550 and 554 response).

Yes I've confirmed that my IP has been blacklisted by spamhaus and I've requested to be removed. But the real question is, why does my non-XF site send e-mails just fine on the same domain/IP/server?

What do you mean "sends just fine"? If you are blocked by the receiver, it doesn't matter what script it is... you are going to get blocked. The script is not going to get you around that (unless you are using SMTP on it to send your outbound mail via another service).
Have you actually checked your MTA logs (if you are on a VPS/Dedi)? I'm sure you will find that no matter which site is sending - if it's going to the same domain, it's going to be blocked. Just so happens that XF may have better logging of the error.

My other site is a link directory. Whenever I submit a link to it, I get an e-mail. These e-mails were being sent regardless. In my VPS server's mail log, I noticed I was blacklisted on spamhaus. Not sure why XF wouldn't send mails, but the link directory did.

In any case, it's now fixed (I was to remove myself from the blacklist).
