It loads but it's very slow so likely server resources.

If you're going to allow massive threads then you will need the infrastructure to support them.

What's the definition of a "massive thread" these days? I remember when a board i was on had to close threads and restart them on a new thread every thousand posts or so (they were on vB then, not sure what version) but I have one into the 10s of thousands with no problems (but that's unusual for my board, most are in the hundreds at best). Or does actual size (e.g. lots of attachments) factor in rather than just number of posts?

The thread referenced in this post is over 2,500 pages and assuming 20 posts per page, that's over 50,000 posts.
Threads of that size are of no use at all - I personally would close them after a certain number of posts and start a new one.

It is also very media content heavy - lots of images, videos, third party embeds, etc., so a lot of data to load on each page.

Is there a suggested "max size" that should be set up for auto-closing threads?
