XF 2.1 Featured image for feed using a sidebar image

I have my forum feed being published to facebook and some others. The problem is that the feed picks "a banner image" I have in the sidebar to illustrate the posts in the forum.

Why and how to fix it?

If there is no image, no image should be shown. If there is an image present in the post itself, then that image should be used.

The only thing you could do is to provide a metadata logo image in the style properties. That will then always be used as the open graph icon, which is generally what Facebook picks.

But why if there is no image in the post, a banner add from the sidebar is pulled? It should be a post with no image and that is what I need to have.

Any ideas?

If you don't specify an og:image, Facebook will pull one from the page. What it pulls is entirely an internal decision to it.

Is there a way to specify no image? 95% of posts have no image, so maybe that can be the best approach.
