Export Settings?

I've taken advantage of using the custom demo and spent considerable time to set things up and see how it would work for us. Is there a way for me to export those settings and import them into my actual site once I purchase?

You could take screenshots of the settings you have modified.

I was trying to avoid that option. Seeing that they offer you the opportunity to set up a trial site to see if it will work for you, I would have expected some way to export/import site settings.

Not sure why you would expect trial forum software to have the ability to export settings.
I can understand the desire. It would be a handy functionality, even independently from the demo and when starting with XF the backend can be quite demanding as you are not yet used to how it works, so it can be pretty painful. I remember well back then to have run into the same question and, with the demo running out, being in fear that it would take forever and create many headaches to recreate all the settings I did on the demo after eternal digging through docs, forum and trial and error again from scratch.

Buy license, install on localhost, setup how you want. From there, I do believe you can import into a live site. If things don't work out, XF will give refund in certain cases.

Well: I said I can understand where the wish comes from. Makes absolutely no sense trying to convince me that the wish would be stupid and unnecessary. I have my forum up and running for several years, so too late for me. Still export would be nice if i.e. you want to create a clone for a test w/o cloning all the data and users. Can be nice for debugging and also nice for developing the own structure and setup further. Way easier and more realistic when you can start with what you have live right now than on a green field.
