Closed Empty SPOILER BBCode can a) be confusing and b) be used to hide text in message

What follows is an empty "SPOILER" BB code (you cannot see it here on XenForo 2.3.2):

This is what it looks like in BBCode mode:

[SPOILER="My spoiler title"][/SPOILER]

One of our users was confused when he got the syntax wrong (he accidentally entered the spoiler contents not in-between the tags but in the argument).

Another aspect of this issue that I thought about is that it can be (ab-)used to hide text in messages that will be invisible to users and moderators but will be indexed by XenForo's search engine.

Maybe show a "missing content" placeholder for spoilers without content instead of skipping them altogether?

Automated triage: Design issue

Thank you for reporting this issue. An empty spoiler is deliberately rendered as nothing, title included, and other empty block tags such as quotes behave the same way. Showing a placeholder or the title instead would be a design change rather than a bug fix.

This is an automated assessment. A member of staff may review and update it.
