XF 2.0 Elasticsearch high CPU usage

I have this problem for a long time. ES is suing 40% CPU all-the-time!

I created a topic on their GitHub but they don't want to help novice users like me...

My Software:

Elasticsearch 6.2.3
JVM:

java version "9.0.4"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 9.0.4+11)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 9.0.4+11, mixed mode)

OS :

Linux 2.6.32-696.23.1.el6.x86_64 SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux
CentOS 6.9

Server Software:

• LiteSpeed 5.2.6

Description of the problem including expected versus actual behavior:

High CPU Usage. Always around 40%.



Software:

• XenForo 2.0.4
• XenForo Enhanced Search + Similar Threads Plugin
• PHP 7.2
• CPU Core i7 3770

Regenerated search index but did not help. Disabled Similar Threads, not much change. Killed ES and server loads became normal again.

What should I do? I can disable Enhanced Search and Similar Threads althogether. I'm really tired of this.

Downgrade java to version 8. That's their supported version and see if that makes a difference

Java 9 performs better. I was on Java 8 before. And no, v6.2.3 supports Java 9.

I'll check the proper set-up guides.

And BTW what will I lose if I don't use Advanced Search and ES?

Nothing, if your server has no problems with SQL searches.

MySQL is limited to searches where each term is more than 3 characters long, and does horribly at accent handling, or 'fuzzy' matching of words

Turns out to be a problem with PHP 7.2. Downgrading to PHP 7.1 solved all the problems for now.

How to updated java version? I see my java version is 1.8.0
