That is the minimum requirement for that function.

I have a few threads we want to auto lock after 6 months, or 364 days.

Have you considered Xenforo_Locale::dateTime() instead?

That is only for formatting the date to views. I used it to display the current time, but I saw that XF uses the Date object too, so I am still using it.

This seems like a great addon, but is it possible, or would it be possible, to set a global option for an entire forum section? E.g. an 'Updates' section, and every thread created in there would auto-lock after 72 hours or whatever.

You simple remove the limit using ACP. Then you can unlock the thread using the Edit Thread link. If you don't remove the limit, it will auto-lock again, and it's by design.
