I've used the WP-eCommerce plugin and it was great when I used it in the past.
ElegantThemes.com have accomplished a WordPress shopping system simply by using the built in WordPress pages and a little custom code, I think. http://www.elegantthemes.com/gallery/estore/
I have had great experience using this product and they have a lite version for free http://cart66.com/
Ecwid is a A drag-and-drop interface to shop the catalog. What I don't care for is that the products are hosted off-site, but on the other hand, they can handle payment processing if the client needs it.
EasyTarget: Zencart is very advanced, lots of add-ons, world wide payment options, stable and actively supported, and oh ya, its free as in beer.
