Does having all threads in one category hurt/affect SEO?

There are some advantages to segmenting topics of threads into different categories, though.
It allows you to add snippets describing the category which has some SEO advantages and it allows your members to more easily locate areas of interest within broad topics.
It really depends on the nature and focus of your specific forums, as well as the technical proficiency of your members. Too many categories could arguably be worse than having too few on many sites and for less technologically competent members may just make navigation more confusing.
