If you want your moderators to be treated like normal members then the only way that's going to work is to have anonymous moderators.
Otherwise they are always going to be treated differently to other members, even in areas they may not moderate.
From experience (on other sites), even site owners and other staff treat moderators and staff differently, at the expense of regular members.
I recall on one site one moderator insulting all Turkish people and when I called him out over it, I was the one who was punished.
That was the last post I ever made on that site.
