Differentiating between Forum and Forums

As we are getting more and more new users who weren't brought up in the era of the old school forum (aka bulletin or message board) I am more and and more finding the terms forum (meaning the whole discussion forum) and forums, meaning the different sections or subforums. The term Board is used a lot here, and also in the ACP.

So apart from that and seeing as how hardly any users call a forum a board any more, we have the confusion between the two terms forum and forums.

I noticed this particularly when writing a posting guide aimed at those users less familiar with the traditional forum platform what we have. So I thought I would change the phrases to be less ambiguous and make more sense to new users.

I will changed the main forums tab to Forum or maybe Discussion but am wondering what to call the forums. Maybe sections? or categories? or topics? (but some people refer to threads as topics)

My problem is they are already divided into categories, so maybe sections under each category will work best.

I'd be interested to know what other think and have done to solve the problem (if indeed tis seen as problem).
