Personally think the show has got weaker as it has gone on.
The first couple of seasons were the best, last season was a mess.

Seasons 1 and 2 were epic. Season 3 was a bit of a letdown, but I liked 4 (Lithgow is awesome). Seasons 5 and 6 were not terrible, but were not at the same level of the first couple.

I have to say, this first episode of Season 7 was great! Although, things were moving along VERY quickly in this episode. Not sure how they can keep this pace up for the entire season.
