When you have large files (gig size +) that have several updates, storing each version is pretty resource intensive and most people are not interested in downloading an old version. But deleting an old version currently deletes the history that goes with it including download count and ratings and all the info about that update.
I am suggesting a setting that allows the uploader to store X old file versions but unlimited history entries, and an option that when you delete a version you keep the history associated with it and just delete the actual file.
