Delete all avatars and use Gravatar only?

I think you should be able to do this by deleting all existing avatars, changing the usergroup permissions but still allow Gravatar.

There is no mass option to delete so it would have to be a query and you would also have to physically delete the files from the server.

Looks like there are a couple of tables with avatar related data too: xf_user, xf_user_profile

Maybe if I edited the template's and remove the upload part's

Yes, you could remove the upload option with edits.
The email field for Gravatar is already auto-populated with the member email address.
All they need to do is check the Use Gravatar box.

So I can change the check box to auto tick than should be fun
Guess it's time to look for the templates

With an auto check though, if they don't have a gravatar, it will throw an error: No Gravatar found for specified email address.
