I like the privacy settings features on the profile page allowing only people you follow to view your profile page, start conversations etc. Is there a way to make the default setting on registration "People you follow only"?

Also, is there a way to place people in different user groups on registration, for example, if somebody ticks male at registration they go into user group 'male members' and females would have their own user group? The reason for this is to have restricted forums for certain users.

Finally, is there a way to have a PayPal subscription on registration?

Yes.

You can use the promotions system to add extra groups on registrations.

User upgrades (PayPal subscriptions) have to happen after registration, but you can block access to the forums until they've purchased an upgrade.
