XF 2.3 Dealing with spam

I didn’t see this particular question answered:

I have XenForo Cloud. I often get an email of new registration and item in Approval queue. I go to the Approval queue and see this:

StopForumSpam matched (email: blacklisted, ip: 4147)

So I do a Spam clean, then Save.

I next go to Admin, List all users, and delete the user grayed out.

My question is there an option or add-on that will prevent such attempts to register so I don't need to be bothered. My preference would be an add-on from @AndyB as his add-ons are top quality and he provides great support.

It’s up to you to determine. Just because they are on SFS doesn’t mean they are a spammer, although email addresses are more reliable than username or IP sometimes.

They may be on the database just because some inexperienced mod somewhere was a bit liberal with the spam cleaner.

I have seen this on a forum I moderate. One mod just spam cleans anything they take an exception to. Hence a member of whom the mod just didn’t like the cut of their jib ends up on SFS database which is what the spam cleaner can do.

If you mean preventing spam coming on at all, I think there are a couple of addons that people use. Ozzie's Spaminator prevents bots from registering and seems popular. Xon's Sign up abuse addon is also popular. I'm not sure if AndyB has an anti-spam addon or not - you could maybe message him.

Do you use Cloudflare Turnstile instead of Captcha? That stopped most of mine. It's free (although I think only for those who have the site with Cloudflare).

Thanks for the replies. Will review and study. All the spam so far. have been from countries with no legitimate interest in the forum. Willing to take a chance and if I were to block/ban a legitimate user, they can always use the contact form.

The Spaminator doesn't block humans, only spam bot sign ups. But it's a start. I'm using that and Cloudflare Turnstile (they are fine together). Xon's addon does a lot more and may be of interest. But Cloudflare Turnstile on its own reduced the ones in the approval queue to about 1 a week.
